#1 – Settling Cracks

Settling cracks are just that small to medium hairline cracks in wall or ceilings. They run horizontal and vertical. Apply paintable caulk instead of drywall mud or spackle…why? Because caulking “breathes” and will have a little more “give” with the expanding and constricting most homes do. Mud and spackle for the most part dry hard and will in time crack again.

Diagonal cracks in walls and ceilings point to foundation issues and very rarely are just settling cracks.

While caulk is a good choice for settling cracks it can sometimes shrink and should be allowed to dry to see of another application is needed.
